Three top reasons we don’t like to exercise

Three top reasons we don’t like to exercise and what we can do about it!
Most of us don’t jump out of bed with glee, excited about running 20 miles or going to the gym, especially as we get older. Actually only 32.5% of us exercise regularly at all, according to The American Heart Association. The top three reasons we hear that folks don’t like exercise are:
• It’s too much work or will take too much time • I don’t have the energy • It’s not fun!
Even Carol and I, as fitness coaches, have our moments where it’d just be easier to blow off our day’s exercise and go to the bakery with a friend. It’s human nature and the trick is to shift our mind sets about exercise so we do it more regularly than not.
Here are some tips that will help you want to get out there:
1. The easiest way to address the time concern is just to say MAKE the time in your schedule. And having said that, working backwards, remember all the times you intended to get out there and you let something get in the way? Remember how you felt? Guilty? Less attractive? Less confident? Fatter? Research is showing us that our thoughts are VERY powerful. These kinds of thoughts repeated over and over will bring us more of the same.
It’s time to make a shift in your thinking by starting to observe your ‘mind talk.’ Every time one of those thoughts come up, delete it and insert the thought you’d LIKE to have running. “I really like my walks. I feel so much better when I get out in some fresh air. My body gets stronger and leaner every day.” These thoughts will give you more joy and reason to get out there tomorrow.
Make the time in your schedule because your walks (or bike rides or whatever turns you on) are actually the best time to connect with your inner source of wisdom. The more we listen to a higher vibration of energy, the better quality of answers we receive and our day just runs that much smoother. I consider my exercise time as part of my work day because, as I run along, I am asking Spirit to guide me toward the best resolutions for my life’s challenges. The results are always much bigger, better and more effortless than I could have figured out on my own.
2. If you don’t have the energy, we hear you. Life today can be so filled with stresses: money, relationships and health challenges can wear us out. One of the easiest things you can do that will recharge your batteries is to just get out there for a short walk. Ideally walk toward some greenery. Nature is the best healer. Let her hear your worries and transform them. With every breath, take in her loving, supportive energy and with every exhale, let go of your concerns- let them turn into smoke and dissipate into the air. Breathing more deeply is very healing. Allow yourself to feel the relief and comfort that’s available to you.
Here’s a bonus tip: While walking along, start gently tapping your lower, middle back, where your kidneys are located. In Chinese medicine, your kidneys hold your life force. This gentle tapping will stimulate them to recharge. Encourage them with your thoughts as well: “My kidneys are recharging. My energy is returning. Thank you, Universe/God/Spirit, for helping me to heal and rejuvenate. My life is turning around, as of today. I feel better all the time.” You will feel better.
3. If exercise hasn’t been a lot of fun for you, just know you’re not alone. But you can start to redefine what exercise means to you. Tailor it to your life. Starting with a walk, or whatever appeals to you, allow yourself to be grateful for all that you do have in your life. Make a decision to look for the beauty around you. Train yourself to focus on what you see that inspires you and less on what you used to see that stressed you out. This practice is key to bringing you more of what you want in life in general. How many unusual birds or flowers can you find? Can you bring a smile to someone’s face? Think of something funny and start laughing! It’s a choice to have more fun with your exercise. And we all know the health benefits that come with a regular regime. You will feel better, look better and be happier. You can’t beat that.
Carol recommends finding an exercise buddy. This will not only make your movement time more fun but will certainly motivate you to get out there when you don’t necessarily feel like it. My Boston Terrier, Harry, is often my motivation. I can feel his eyes on me when he needs to go out and he certainly brings me so much joy during our “walkies.”
You can also start using a tool we call Meridian Tapping to finally release your subconscious programming about exercise. This is the easiest way to reprogram your mind about exercise and have the health and happiness you’re looking for. Give us a call to find out when our next teleseminar or retreat is being held. We’d love to support you.
